Melanie (Mel) Sharpe, LCPC
Mel has experience in individual, couples, family, and group therapy within an outpatient setting. She also has extensive experience with the senior population. Before her career in mental health, Mel was a documentary photographer, who also captured weddings as well as portraits. Mel still enjoys participating in the arts and spends time traveling with her significant other in their RV exploring from Wyoming to Alabama. Most importantly, Mel loves spending time with and cooking for her blended family of 8 children. Having taken care of such a large family, through ups and downs (and many years navigating the emotions of teenagers), Mel believes she has gleaned important understanding regarding the intricate components of the human condition and understands the stresses as well as joys of daily life we all experience.

Mel facilitates a therapeutic space using empathy and compassion. She uses the tools of Person-Centered Therapy as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness to aid in building a strong therapeutic foundation. Mel’s uses a collaborative approach that aids in empowering your strength to take the lead in finding meaningful solutions and to carry these out. Mel believes she can be the best helper through “walking beside” you in your journey, rather than forcing or pushing. She is also passionate about facilitating an understanding regarding psychoeducation to improve treatment outcomes.
Mel’s Personality
Mel’s personality is inquisitive, altruistic, creative, and humorous. She believes everyone deserves to tell their story while receiving warmth, respect, and acceptance through this process. Colleagues say she has proven her ability at adjusting to ongoing challenges in the mental health field with compassion, grace, and wit. Advocacy and compassion for others is evident in her practices as a professional. Colleagues and clients have noted that Mel provides strong emotional support in a grounded, creative manner. Mel has found throughout her life, people are naturally drawn to her due to her insightfulness, calming presence, and emotional intelligence. These experiences have strengthened her identity as a helper and healer which aided her confidence on her journey in becoming a mental health professional.
