Approaches

Donna’s academic, professional, and personal experiences have been shaped by her interest in the meaning of human challenges and symptoms. Fluent in both conventional research-based approaches (CBT, DBT, ACT) and alternative (Jungian, Existential; Positive Psychology) models of therapy, Donna is noted for her fearless acceptance of the “shadowy” aspects of our internal life. As a therapist, Donna is informed by her belief in the fundamental resilience of individuals, the power of relationship and community, and in the capability inherent in every human being to find meaning, purpose, and growth through the circumstances that make for his/her/their life. She is highly adept at “staying with” the people she is working with and finding collaborative and creative ways in framing situations in a manner that fosters self-awareness and skill.

Donna’s Personality

Donna’s character is described as intelligent, unflinching, frank, funny, open, and compassionate. She will attempt to provide support, encouragement, challenge, and a positive partnership during your services. Donna believes this quote reflects an important view of life “Be patient toward all that is unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves…Live the questions now” (Rainer Maria, Rilke, 1934). Another quote she stands by is “I want to know if you belong or feel abandoned; if you know despair or can see it in others. I want to know if you are prepared to live in the world with its harsh need to change you. If you can look back with firm eyes and say, ‘This is where I stand’”. (David Whyte, 1992)
